RADIOPHRENIA 2019

https://radiophrenia.scot/

Radiophrenia is a temporary art radio station – a two-week exploration into current trends in sound and transmission arts. Broadcasting live from Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts, the station aims to promote radio as an art form, encouraging challenging and radical new approaches to the medium.

Indeed.....Marvellous, enormous and bewildering, Radiophrenia Glasgow is back. I'm very pleased to in the programme with

NEW WEBSITE

"This site presents John Hall's recent solo and collaborative projects including video, soundworks, performances and other visual art work. These have involved traditional musicians, schools, DJs, broadcasters, actors and national and regional archives in  creative examinations of locality.

This has led to a developing focus on arcane forms of expression and ritual celebration and their place within (rather than alongside) popular culture. John intends to pursue this interest independently and introduce these themes to collaborative work in 2019/20 .
Elsewhere John's work  continues to provide often overlapping spaces for individual and collaborative practice around community and locality through new partnerships with artists, schools, and community groups.
John is currently  working with Alex Blackmore, Kate Davies and Croftlands School in Ulverston Coronation Hall on the "Coroftlands" arts and education project, and as Project Manager on "SJB3: Manners and Amusements" with Artspace.."

SEASONING / NOVEMBERISM / SEMI DETACHED SUBURBAN M.R. JAMES

First looked at James and his regiment of terrorised Clergy
when doing the EAR project..that work is still spinning off in various directions and the Seasoning / Novemberism material is the latest...

the whole project is here...http://seasoningbifocals.blogspot.co.uk/

..so it's very good and very appropriate to be revisiting the
Field Trip piece from EAR as part of the Ghost Story event. I'm reading three of my own, and they seem to be full of references to the last couple of year's work.

November marks the point in the year when the cold and the darkness begin to set in. A time of reflection, of Souling from door to door, prayers exchanged for food, of sacrifice and bargaining,
"Ingredients Serves Twelve" is a composition for broadcast evoking the desperate rituals of the Blood Month. It comprises narration, vinyl cut-ups, original Field recordings, Cassette tape, a collection of BBC in - house Sound Effects discs donated by BBC Radio Cumbria and, as the voice of guest narrator, Broadcaster Jennie Dennett.

HUMAN ORGANS AT MERZBARN

A Human Organs performance at the Kurt Schwitters Merzbarn in Elterwater. This is the first appearance of the Four Person line up, so left to right you'll see Neil Wade, Jo Wade, me, and Jamie McPhie..these two videos from Alex record two chunks of what may evolve into some sort of offgrid ritual trance thing, in which we were joined by Trombonist Carolyn Francis and the Lakeland Fiddlers, who played some great tunes outside the Merzbarn earlier in the day and at the church in the morning. . We've been wondering about wether / how to augment the organs, and this points a way or two.. there are some great moments here, thank you Carolyn and co, and thank you Ian and Celia from Littoral.

https://vimeo.com/223425494  for the first number, and Carolyn's first intervention.
