Floodtide at Full Of Noises

Barrow Park Bandstand, Sunday Aug 2, 9.30am. Daniel Fischer and John Eacott are joined by Steve Benn for the opening notes of a 12 hour performance of Floodtide, a work drawing on tidal data from Walney Channel and performed by singers,  harps, drums, brass , woodwinds, Steve's Didj,  violins, harmonium, bells... all either from the local area or featured artists at the 2015 Full Of Noises Festival.
The piece has a lyric drawn from a poem by Kate Davis.

Steve Benn has worked with the Octopus Collective on a couple of projects involving our relationship with the  eco-structure and sonic environment in  his capacity as Natural England's Warden on North  Walney and has been instrumental in our setting up a great working relationship with North Walney Primary School. We are very glad of Natural England's continuing support, and we hope we can work together again soon,  Cheers Steve.

OCTOPUS COLLECTIVE SOUNDCAMP and BY- PRODUCT

Octopus are hosting a Soundcamp at our HQ in Barrow Park as part of REVIEL's International Dawn Chorus event. Weve been roaming Walney with our guests Lee Patterson and Helmut Lemke and recording audio to be mixed into our broadcast of the Dawn Chorus, linking us with London, Crete, Paris , Sienna,  Louisville and elsewhere.  The house is full of cake and microphones, including one aimed at the Attic for when the squirrels wake up.

Here's a bit of by-product..a 60 second video using my drawings and audio made over Walney earlier. Probably makes more sense on a loop, but there you go.

" THE STATE FUNERAL OF JOE MEEK" at GLASGOW RADIOPHRENIA

Really pleased  to be on the bill of  Glasgow Radiophrenia , curated by Barry Burns and Mark Vernon ( see preceding post) and running from April 13-19.  A new edit of  my piece "The State Funeral Of Joe Meek" on at 8.30 on Tuesday the 14th.  Its a fantastic programme of work for Radio, including several commissioned  Live -To- Air pieces, and there's a lot of people we know through FON and Octopus including the great Felix Kubin, and the equally great Robinthefog..

"500 ALBUMS YOU WONT BELIEVE TILL YOU HEAR THEM" featuring The Cardboard Lung.

How good is this? Neil Nixon's trawl through the unusual and unmentionable includes the Beatles,  Wesley Willis, Elvis, Richard Skelton, and me. There's a nice piece on my " Black Patch" collection ( in this blog somewhere). Very chuffed indeed. And its a great book, very funny, very sharp.
